    • Why My Uncle Gordon Frater ,Son of Oscar Bruce Frater was Nicknamed "Frisco"
At my Aunty Iris Frater's 80th Birthday William had me talk to Uncle Gordon ,I ask him some important Questions
The Story goes, in Gordon's early years living in Narrabri ,Gordon had a part time job as a bouncer at the local dances in the district.
In those days, Fred Broffy used to run a Boxing tent touring local rural districts. At this time the Boxing Tent was in town, some of the Boxing team wanted to attend the Local Dance.
When they presented them selves at the dance they cause a disturbance at the front door of the dance . It was Gordon's job to control who was allowed into the dance and he was preventing one of the Boxers from entering the event. A scuffle eventuated and the Boxer shaped up to Gordon , and quick as a flash, Gordon had knocked out this troublesome boxer, who just so happened to be the Sanfransisco Boxing Champ.
The next day the local papers headlines read "Frater decks the Sanfransico Kid"
From thence on Gordon was nicknamed "Frisco". ( Bruce Arkins)

During the depression before the 2nd world war ,there was not much work in Narrabri, so one of the things Gordon did, to get money, was shoot Rabbits , he used to get tup ins a pair .
What he would do, is go out into the srub and look for water holes ware the rabbits would come to get a drink.
He would let off a couple of shots from his gun and that would send the birds flying into the air and he would be able , to find ware the water hole was ,then stake it out and wait for the rabbits to come .
The Drought was so bad, that there were very few water hole left with water in them, so Gordon kept going further and further into the scrub shooting his gun and not finding the Birds or the rabbits . Eventualy he realised he did not have any idea where he was and he became so disorientated that he could not find his way out.
He ran out of water , then had to start surching for water. He was lost in the Srub for 3 days and finally found a deserted old shed that had a rusty old tin with some water in it.
Gordon told me it was the sweetest drink of water he had ever had in his life.
he eventualy found his way out and lived to tell the tail. (Bruce Atkins) [6]
