    • SARAH ANN JACKSON v. CHARLES JACKSON.
The petitioner, for whom Mr Ralston, instructed by Mr Crossman (for Mr J T. Ralston), appeared, prayed for a dissolution of the marriage on thegrounds of adultery. Her maiden name was Watson. The marriage took place at Kiama on the 4th of April, 1881. The petitioner alleged that her husband (who went by the name of Tanner) fasted by profession On one occasion he went to Tasmania to fast for six weeks. He had been to other colonies fasting, wire-walking and ballooning, being absent three to six months at a time. He told her that at Broken Hill he was coach painting and photograph taking. In 1891 he admitted that he was the father of a child of whom a woman called " Effie " was the mother, and the following year she found that he was living with her at a place 150 miles from Melbourne. He used to eat well enough with Witness and with Effie.
In the course of the case a letter was put in, writing last year by the respondent, in New Zealand, to his " dear wife and children," asking if they had any objections to his marrying again, and stating that unless he heard by or before the 1st January 1897, he would marry. He declared that he still remained her " fond husband Charlie," wished them all a merry Christmas and happy new year and asked to be remembered to his mother.
