    • I also remember visiting Aunt Belle before her living in St Mary's when she use to live in Kings Cross/Darlinghurst, she was a famous chef-worked at the Australian Hotel in Sydney City during the war. My parents spent their honeymoon at her place in Wollomooloo. She used to have 'open house' every Sunday afternoon-and it was all very 'bohemian' There is a famous story she woould tell on how on my first visit to her house I told everybody afterwards how untidy and dusty her house was. We laughed about it for many years.(Paul Kachel)

What I remember most about Aunt Belle, was the house when entering the front door the steps to the upstairs area where right there almost right in the entrance of the main door. The house seem to always smell musty. Aunt Belle always had many books, she read and wrote a lot, she was always surrounded by books. She was also a fantastic cook. (William Frater)

Still laugh at the story of her carrying four bricks walking home every day from the restaurant...before long she had enough for dad to build her the retaining wall she wanted! God love her determined spirit! :) Most of my memories are child ones...I have loads of memories of watching her cook..she had very quick, light fingers...I was fascinated! Was convinced she was a kitchen magician! Remember stealing her leg and leaving her stranded on the toilet! lmao Little shit I was! I hid under my bed with her leg...Renee...bring me back my leg you wretched child! (Renee Stanley)

Belle was only 5ft 4in tall, with Blue eyes and Brown hair. Her Passport No. was E401339. Issued 20 Dec 1962. Also have a copy of her diary from 1942 which she used as ann address book. Belle spent about the last 4 years of her life, in a flat that was built onto the rear of John Davies house at 84 Brisbane St, St.Marys. Belle use to read a lot of books and wrote often and she was an extreamly good chef. Travelled to Singapore in 1962 to visit with her neice Phyllis, kept a dairy for part of her journey which we also have a copy of.«b»
